Calcium channel

blockers are a group of substances - dru gs and poisons, causing blockade of calcium channels in cells of the body. Calcium channels are a type of membrane receptor, may t hus combine with specific substances called antagonists, which le ads to block or reduce the possibility of opening up these channels. Capacity reduction in calcium channel opening reduces influx of calcium into cells and drop in their intracellular concentration. Since the Ca2 ions play an important role in the mechanism of muscle contraction, blocking their entry into the cell block the possibility of contraction of the muscles and leads to their relaxation.
